Jeep Wrangler (JL) - the fourth generation of the all-wheel drive SUV Wrangler. Global premiere car was held in November 2017 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, European — in the summer of 2018.

The new "Wrangler" inherited from its predecessors a unique design, characteristic of the progenitor of the model - the army Willys MB of the 1940s. And yet, the designers of the American brand managed to modernize the appearance of the iconic SUV. First of all, thanks to the new LED headlights, different bumpers and slightly changed proportions.

The car retained the frame structure, but to reduce weight and fuel consumption, the engineers took a bold step by increasing the proportion of high-strength steel and aluminum grades in the body structure. The hood, doors and windshield frame are made of “winged metal”, while aluminum and magnesium are combined in the tailgate.

The new-generation Wrangler also retains features such as a flip-down windshield and quick-release doors. At the same time, the glass tilting algorithm has become simpler - you need to unscrew only two bolts. The door hinges are engraved with "T50" - this is the type of "torx" key that must be used to dismantle the doors. Freedom Top's 3-piece removable aluminum hardtop has two separately removable front panels.

However, optional solutions are also offered for the Wrangler Unlimited. For example, a new for this model soft top with SKY ONE-TOUCH electric drive and with removable rear side sections. As well as the “Dual Top” optional equipment package, which includes a three-piece hard top and black fabric soft top (for Sahara and Rubicon - from premium fabric), a bag for storing the soft top. A full-size spare tire is covered with a soft or hard (by Sahara) casing.

The base engine of the Jeep Wrangler JL is a 3.6-liter Pentastar VVT V6 (289 hp, 353 Nm) with start / stop system, which was also installed on the previous iteration model. The power unit is combined with a 6-speed "mechanics" or 8-speed "automatic". A step higher in the engine range is the hybrid version of the mild hybrid (“mild hybrid”). Such an installation consists of a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine with a capacity of 272 hp. (400 Nm), starter-generator, 48-volt battery and 8-speed "automatic". The electric motor helps the SUV during acceleration and contributes to fuel economy.

The new-generation "European" Wrangler's engine range consists of two new units not available in America. This is a diesel modification with a 2.2-liter "turbo diesel" MultiJet II with a capacity of 200 hp. (450 Nm) and gasoline, with a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 272 hp. (400 Nm). 

Wrangler Unlimited in all versions is equipped with Dana solid axles and dependent suspensions. Sport and Sahara models have a Command-Trac transfer case with a 2.72:1 reduction gear, permanent all-wheel drive and front axle disengagement. The Rubicon features a Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4.0:1 low gear ratio, electronic front anti-roll bar disengagement, and Tru-Loc front and rear axle locks. The hydraulic power steering was replaced by an electro-hydraulic one.
